Door Guys (and the occasional door woman)

We figured the the best way to describe everyone's interaction with Door Guy's at some point is summed up in the Door Man scene in "Knocked Up". The truth is, they have a tough job. They spend the night balancing a delicate ratio of men and women, dealing with drunk people, telling people no and trying to stay out of fights. On the other side we just see a person we need to get by to have a good time and/or meet up with friends. With that we wanted to share a few tips to make both your lives better and increase your odds of getting waved in.

To our Guys

If you want to get into a club or a lounge and there are 2-3 of you, GO EARLY. 10-10:30 tends to be the sweet spot. But if you want to get a later start there are two things you can do to increase your odds.

1- Travel with more girls than guys. A 2-1 is ideal but at the minimum have one more girl then guys in the group. Also let the ladies lead the group in line.

2- Bring cash. Cash is always king, so slipping the door guy a few bucks will go a long ways. 2-3 guys is $40-$60 more then that you you could drop $100 but you're better off just asking if you can run a $200 minimum bar tab. The best dressed or most stylish person at the door is you you're looking for to make this transaction. Be subtle and your better to approach them out of the line then in it.

Within both of these is, make sure you're always dressed fashionably. Walking out of a sports bar wearing a team jersey and hat will guarantee a denied entry.

To our Ladies

Typically you will have no problems getting in anywhere but there are some things that will get you denied.

1- Traveling with more guys than girls will get you denied most of the time. Be smart about your ratio

2- Don't have overly drunk friends with you. This pertains to guys as well and should be common sense but we've watched soooo many people get denied for partying a little too hard early in the night.

3- If you don't want to wait longer than average in line arrive 11-12. Chances are you will be plucked out of line ans whisked in faster during that time. After 12 places tend to be close to capacity and you may need to wait.

General Rules

Always have a contingency plan for a place close by. This will help keep the emotions down and the night moving. This is NYC after all and there is always somewhere else to go close by. And last but not least, always be nice. Being nice will always open more doors then not. A quick compliment wont hurt either.

Our goal is to make sure you never have to deal with lines via a Bowery Union membership but till that gets launched these are good rules for the road
